Project Eider Rock
Project Eider Rock Investment Decision
On Friday, July 24, 2009, Irving Oil and BP announced the decision that Project Eider Rock will not be moving forward at this time as a result of global economic and industry conditions.
This was a difficult decision for our company and we provided this update to the community as timely as we could. We want to thank you for providing your encouragement and feedback over the past three years, all of which have contributed to shaping Project Eider Rock.
While this Project is not moving ahead at this time, we still remain committed to our community, our province's Self-Sufficiency goal and the further development of the New Brunswick Energy Hub. We would also like to thank and acknowledge the three levels of government for their support and encouragement of attracting world-scale companies to our region. We will continue to work hard to create these opportunities and maintain the competitiveness of our existing business.
A significant amount of work that has been completed on the environmental assessment of the project, and it is our desire to continue the environmental permitting process. We will continue to engage the community on the status of the permitting process. The successful completion of the environmental permitting process will help us preserve future options, in the event market conditions become more favourable.
We are disappointed by this decision and we know many of you share that disappointment. However, we hope to take the lessons learned through the exploration of this project and apply it to other future investments. Thank you again for working with us and helping us shape this Project together.
Sincerely,
Kevin Scott
Commercial Director of Refining Growth
